Opened public bathroom door with foot.
Well hello. Haven’t been on here in a hot minute. Long time. Anyway, much has transpired in my life since I posted about mono (forgot I posted about that – probably because I was delirious). I went to Firefly, dated a few whack jobs, found a new favorite bar, and moved back to civilization. All in a days work.
But I am here today because I find myself in another car ride to CT. As much as I love my siblings Jean and Dave, a blog story just came to mind so I had to take advantage of the thought before it vanished for good. You all know my memory at this point.
So this a.m. I’m walking to the bus stop rather than to the metro, because on special occasions (read: last three weeks because I think I gave myself a stress fracture at Firefly) I avoid walking and take the bus. I time this perfectly per the NextBusDC app (get it, you won’t regret it). I roll in hot (literally with my suitcase) and post up shop at the bus stop. Bus is 4 mins out. Timed perfectly, per usual. Give myself a quick pat on the back. If I had missed it, I would have been late to my 10am meeting (keep your thoughts to yourself please).
Soon enough, I see my bus off in the distance. The good old reliable 96. So close, yet so far away. Because as I spot said bus, I smell smoke. Then I notice smoke billowing out of the building between myself and the bus. Luckily, the fire station was literally next to the building on fire. Well, that’s convenient, I thought. Sure enough, one second later the firetrucks come out, the road is shut down, and 96 is still at the light unable to get to poor little old (literally, my bday is in a few weeks :-/) me. I realize at this point, my bus is not coming. After watching the blaze for a bit, I figure I should actually walk to the metro in order to get to work at a decent hour. Oh well. I was a half hour late to a meeting because a fire broke out in the building next to the bus stop, preventing my bus from getting to me. Likely story.
The right side of my neck has been hurting for a couple of days, throat just started hurting today, and just checked my temp and have a fever. I appear to be sick…again. 2013 has been the year of sickness. So, after realizing I have a fever, my natural inclination is to hit the internets to try to figure out what could be the cause of this illness. I google “swolen lymph node on one side of neck” and come to my first link. Options:
1) mono [I have been extremely tired recently so this is possible],
2) laryngitis [voice is fine so I guess that’s not it], and
3) sore throat.
Hmmm. I’m gonna go with sore throat for now, since I’m just getting over a cold and I can’t have mono during the summer. That won’t work for me. But let’s check another link – I’m sure there’s got to be some other options. After a couple more fairly useless links, I stumbled upon this great blog post. Please read and enjoy.
Anddddd…that’s my cue to go to bed so I can fight whatever it is. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I’m not a doctor, even though my self-diagnosis accuracy rate is usually at about 75%. 80 on a good day.
Okay, good night!
Ran the GW Parkway 10 miler this morning. Amazing run, highly recommend. I have been wanting to do it for as long as I can remember, but weddings or some other travel had prevented me from participating. Sadly, I wasn’t able to train for it. However, this week I was able to convince a friend who had also not trained to run it with me and we did very well considering.
I was just telling someone about the run. Although said person has asked to remain nameless, some of you may be able to guess who it is. Here was the conversation:
Sara: It was great, but my IT bands really hurt during the run.
Mystery Person: Well, could you take them off?
On that note, maybe I’ll go ice the IT bands. Or, I could just take them off.
Sara: Hey Jon, it’s Sara. Switching over to email (from eHarmony) as you suggested. Hope you are having a good weekend. Get into anything fun?
Like me, you may have had to read that a couple of times to make sure you were reading it correctly. Let’s review:
– Hey Girl
– Clarification of which mall he walked, in case there was any confusion.
– I total, he asked about five miles.
– He walked some basketball.
